Finissage: „Creative Meditation“

„Creative Meditation“
I don‘t know what that is, but how it happens.

Holi

that it was Holi yesterday, on the 14th, I found out only after the Finissage – and nothing else could have fit the occasion better.
Holi, the Indian festival of colors, the celebration that embraces all castes for a day when people pour powdered colors on each other.

Holi

Farbpulver bewerfen.

Latilt Verma, Aurodhan Gallery, A.B, Holger Jetter

The Performance

  • 10 Colors, the basic colors, the secondary colors, black and white, plus sienna and brown, one after the other is squeezed directly from the tube onto the prepared canvas. This is my pallet.
  • On the left the basic colors, on the right the secondary colors, in the middle at the top the white, at the bottom the black, to the left of it ocher, to the right brown.

Links davon Ocker, rechts Braun.

  • My ten fingers are my brushes.

  • With the left hand: index finger-yellow, middle finger-red, ring finger-blue. With the right hand: index finger-violet, middle finger-green, ring finger-orange
  • The thumbs are „charged“ with black and white, the pinkies with ocher and brown
  • First I walk over to Holger and „infect“ his violinist hands with colors in consonance with the colors on my fingers.

  • We make music with colors.

  • This is an experience without precedent.
I have never done this, we have never done this - not even rehearsed. During the six weeks we spent together at his place in Auroville we had many a concentrated exchanges that in effect took the place of the rehearsing as our preparation.
Holger has explored colors in terms of music with the translation of intervals, and I with rendering the character of trees into music. Which is another project in the making.
  • This will not be a show but a joint „creative meditation“ - whatever that may mean.

  • Holger and I are not „performing“ something - we will lead into something.

We are opening a process that never occurred before in this way and will never repeat itself in this same way. We bring attention to that which happens, ceaselessly in everyday life: to the creative perception which brings forth the reality that we experience as such. In every moment we create our world-self-image anew, by moving within some kind of elastic coating that we quite naturally assume to be the objective whole.

The audience, 40 to 50 or so embodied universes in the guise of men and women, who honored us with their presence and their openness to spend an hour together - each of them was handed a white sheet of paper at the beginning with the request to hold on to it and not to confuse the two sides :-)
On one side the emptiness and on the other side the silence.
Emptiness is the foundation for the visual arts, silence the foundation for music.

Interaction
This was the preparation for the second and interactive part of the performance.

Interaktion

Here, I used my 10 color-loaded fingers and a pencil to paint and draw on the „empty silence“ of the white sheet for each person who came to me. Simultaneously, Holger, inspired by each individual, intoned a spontaneous musical response.

Through his playing I could hear precisely how he was interpreting each person.

When I say interpreting I do not mean: judging.

With music as well as with colors there are no „good“ and „bad“ tones. There are only more or less harmonious combinations.
All tones, all aspects belong together.
All castes are a colorful whole that playfully suspends its separation through the multicolored events on this day.
Such a day should be our „EVERYDAY“!

Evolution
If I had to think of one attribute of evolution - that is, of factual progress, not of an ever faster running away - it would be the way in which it integrates, secures, honors, preserves and requires that which came before into and for the next higher level of development. As the lower step in a staircase toward the higher one. As the roots of the tree to the crown.
It is an erroneous idea that progress must mean the destruction or extinction of that which preceded. What it may mean is its transformation and dissolution (which may very well be seen as absorption), thus leading to an elevation of the whole – not filthy, despised, repressed (psycho)-garbage and waste that pollutes the groundwater, lakes and souls.

Evolution

Black
Towards the end of the program a lady approached and asked me why I'm using black, a color that „the Mother“ did not include in her 12-part color circle.

Because when we look, I answered, we always do it from within the „black“.
The pupil which receives the light and the colors is as black as an infinitely deep well. Were it white, we would be blind.

There, where everything takes place that we experience as reality, in our brain and our body it is night. Pulsating, velvety, murmuring darkness, sparked by neuron-flashes that, by means of inconceivably complex and fast transmission processes, “extrapolate” the luminous sensory impressions to a natural experience of reality - in the darkrooms of our brains - to a colorful and melodious reality. As happened during this one hour.

Schwarz

Acknowledgements
My special thanks to Holger, to Lalit and Shernas, to Jana, Peter, Martina and all the wonder-ful human „universes“ who were present, and to those who actively participate in „The Adventure of Consciousness“ (as the title of Satprem's book) and pass on the nourishing fire in our daily lives. Also to those at home who joined in their thoughts and hearts.

Thanks to Sri Aurobindo and „the Mother“ without who we wouldn't have come together, and to the „Spirit of Pondicherry“ that becomes concrete for me with three words:
Light-Ocean-Samadhi. (Samadhi – the gravesite which is a fountain – „my indian grai“)

Dank

Abschied von Indien? oder: der Kerne sind viele Saying goodbye to India?... or: seeds there are many

Abschied von Indien?

...oder

der Kerne sind viele

Saying goodbye to India?

... or: seeds there are many

park guesthouse pondicherry

herzfrucht - zeichnung

An etwas Einmaliges.

For 3 months I came here to India. To inquire into the essence, which, over the past 40 years since my first coming, has built within me, or not.

Initially I thought of 'seed' and 'center point'. Of something unique.

But the unique is manifold.

The fruits reveal this to me.

Inside the papaya fruit there are hundreds of seeds, inside the heart-fruit (ramphal) as well, and the pomegranates are full of seeds for the future.

The unique, the essence, is present within many seeds.

My attempt to arrange this journey into an orderly text-line doesn't come without coercion, and coercion is exactly that which holds back a fine and flowing line. With a drawing this comes easier.

.

So it is fragments, or rather: seeds, which are collecting in my workbooks and have gathered in the working notes in my PC. One of these fragment-seeds that I wrote into my current workbook this morning wishes to make its way into my blog.

Werkbuch 12.3.2014

... what an odd idea to believe to be "done" at 65, or to have "lived" ones life at the age of 95.
As though 100 or 1000 years were enough to even grasp a slight hint of the mystery of life and of this universe in its entire being and with all of its worlds - in a way that it becomes "tattooed" into the "flesh of your consciousness" and with dancing motions circulates in the bloodstream of your thinking instead of merely sticking to your forehead as a token of knowledge.

At 65 I have just arrived (or already!) at the entrance of the mystery of life, of birth and death, of love and suffering, of individuality and community.

Everything I know, am capable of, have learned, is printed on the entrance ticket that I'm handing over at the gate.
